Helpful Hint

When a layout builder posts the name of his layout - whether it be a home layout, or one designed for exhibition at a show - allowing oneself to think outside the box is valuable. I picked this layout to illustrate how such a labeling effort can be both simple and yet creative. Perhaps Gunston's effort will inspire others to make a similarly creative effort with their layouts?

"Sheep Dip is a small industrial layout set within a rural backdrop" exhibited at the Larkrail 2023 show. A video of Rob Gunstone's layout, located in Cardiff, can be found on YouTube. Gunstone performed all the weathering himself on this 00 Gauge seven foot by two-foot layout.

Notice Gunstone's very innovative placement and design of this layout name posted on his valance hanging from two pieces of rope and set askance. This effort was likely fairly easy to accomplish and without much cost. Of course, the fact that this sign is unique is perhaps its most important attribute. I find his wood grain fascia/gorilla sticker a tad distracting but perhaps this layout builder was channeling the wood fencing one might find at the facility modeled.

"Sheep Dip is operated from the front by one operator and needs an overall space of six foot by four foot." Track is Peco Code 75. RMweb lists this layout as 4mm scale. Motive power is by little green industrial saddle tank locos and the occasional ex-British Rail diesel shunter.
