Photo 1 Photograph by Andy Rubbo
There is so much to unpack in this single photo of Andy Rubbo's layout.
Any visitor to Andy Rubbo's layout will soon exhaust the list of superlatives appropriate to this extravaganza. In this blog posting, your blogger will limit himself to just one spectacular scene. Sometimes in a model railroad subsequent construction can obscure detailed areas constructed earlier - such is the case with Andy Rubbo's layout as these two photographs illustrate. Both photographs show the supporting structure of a railroad overpass before the actual overpass has been built. This small area of Andy's layout includes seventeen (17) notable features. Actually, they are not easily seen by the casual visitor to Rubbo's HO scale (1:87.1) layout.
- Horizontal scores in the poured concrete - I believe these scores are for aesthetics but they might have a structural function as well
- At the bottom of the concrete wall there are a pair of drainpipes with some weathering beneath
- Pigeons roosting on girders
- Pigeons on the sidewalk
- Pigeon droppings (depicted as white)
- NO Parking sign on a scale thin iron post
- Detailed strengthened girders
- Skewed riveted vertical support posts
- Poured concrete bases
- Steel gussets
- Extensive use of rivets
- Spotting on the painted silver girders
- Webbing created by the horizontal strengthening plates
- Expansion joints in the concrete sidewalk
- Curb detail at sidewalk edge
- Stop sign with accurate thin post
- One Way sign posted on concrete wall
