Kit No. MST/50, one of Bayardi's priciest tree offerings at $ 15.00/package, is packed one dead tree per see-through package. While this photograph (right) of this painted dead tree appears to require a bit of grey dry brushing, viewed up close the tree looks much more realistic.

Selling for US$ 13.00, Armand P. Bayardi Kit No. MST/28 comes one to a pack. This off-white colored resin casting has one flat side for installing on a diorama or model railroad. As are all his tree castings, this casting boasts an enormous amount of detail.

Contained in Bayardi MSS 37A package, my two resin stumps were painted using three (3) Tamiya paints: Khaki XF-49, Dark Grey XF-24, and Desert Yellow XF-59 (paints I had on hand; other colors could have worked as well); plus Badger Flat Gull Gray 16-99 (probably a bit too white for my purposes but see what I used next), and MIG Neutral Wash P222. In all, I applied four paints and one wash to get a nice-looking tree stump - candidly, perhaps better results could be had with using six paints.

I believe numbers in Armand Bayardi's kits refer to the height in millimeters of each casting. Bayardi castings can be ordered direct from the source or from many online hobby sources. Model railroaders and perhaps diorama builders often overlook including dead trees and stumps into their scenes. We know that the real world is populated by the dead trees as well as live trees. These castings make a fine addition to most model railroads that depict wooded areas.
