So, what use is a Harbor Freight store to a model railroader? Well firstly, they are convenient, there being over 1,100 now across the nation - they started in California. They are not publicly traded so don't try to buy their stock. Some folks swear by this chain; others have never heard of it. The marked prices are just a starter as a discount is available with their credit card and they often have 20 percent off coupons available in your mailbox or other sources.[ Since I last updated this posting, Harbor Freight has announced it is curtailing its coupon program and replacing it with some membership program] I purchased all three of my Harbor Freight workbenches using 20 percent off coupons and was happy with them - see another of my blog postings for further information. While Harbor Freight is no substitute for a Home Depot, they do have some basic modeling tools that you might find useful.
If you cannot find one near you, there is one at 627 Frost Avenue (Route 211) in Warrenton, Virginia 20186.
Disclosure - Your blogger manages a shopping center with a Harbor Freight as one of the tenants.
