About The Author
I wish this book had been published decades ago; Iain Rice breaks the mold when it comes to layout design. I particularly enjoyed Rice's discussion of shadow boxes. After reading about shadow boxes, the reader will realize how important a well thought out fascia and valance is for their own layout. All would benefit from his explanation of the X factor in planning a shadow box. Don't know what the X factor is? Buy Rice's book.
Rice's book is organized around three introductory chapters and then followed by eight chapters each devoted to a different layout Iain has designed (mostly for clients).

I have always felt that RMC and MR have, to an extent, neglected Iain Rice. I wish they would have published more of his ideas between their covers. You can make up this difference by purchasing some of his books. A bit tight-fisted? I have found one or two of his books at my local public library. I would recommend this book to every model railroader along with the author's Cameo Layouts book.
