This the first book by professional model maker David Wright. While the emphasis is on British prototypes - including thatched roofs - readers will find much that they can apply to building models of American prototypes. Wright particularly enjoys using foam core for his models.

His seven chapters are: "The History of Rural Buildings in Britain"; "Making a Start - Research, Measurements, Photography and Working Drawings"; "Constructing a Model"; "Final Painting, Weathering, and Finishing"; "Setting Your Model Building into the Landscape"; "Projects - Scratch-building Three Rural Buildings"; "Improving Kits and Off-The-Shelf Models"; and a Color Preference Guide as an Appendix. Wright completes his book with a "List of Suppliers" and "Further Information." An index is included. In other words, a very thorough job indeed.

I heartily recommend this profusely illustrated book to anyone interested in scratch building structures for his layout. For more information see www.crowood.com .
