Product Review
Item No. 35638
Eduard
Here is another example of a product primarily marketed to military modelers which finds a place on a model railroad. This 1/35 scale product can be used atop of a fence on a G-Scale layout. My use was atop a model of a gate and fence encircling a ammo dump found on a sugar cane plantation in Oahu Hawaii. I found Eduard's Item No. 34638 surprisingly easy to work with - though one should work carefully.
Remarkably, I never broke a single strand inadvertently. While I model in 1:20.3 scale, the advertised 1/35 scale looked fine to me. I doubt anyone manufactures barbed wire described as 1:20 scale so I was happy to get my hands on this product.
A few words about the manufacturer. In 1989, Eduard Model Accessories was launched in the basement of of co-owner Ctirad Kuraks' home in Most, Czechoslovakia (today's Czech Republic. Kurak had a partner in Vladimir Sulc.
Sales grew from their modest start in 1987 making photo etches for themselves so that they could move into proper offices and start a production line in 1991. In 1996 they bought a new building in the town of Obrnice.
