There is a staging area behind the backdrop (visible in a video). He built a full-scale mockup of the layout before constructing the final layout - using theater techniques. Pools of light are intentional. Built over an eight-year period. Concept began in 1981/82. has travelled 17,000 miles from England to Australia and perhaps Tasmania. Can be set up in 45 minutes for an exhibition.
