Read the O Gauge Railroading Run 333 December 2023/January 2024 to learn about an interesting approach to a layout skirt. There Minarik shows how he displayed his railroad lantern collection in an illuminated area of his layout skirt. This is an approach worth considering. Yes, it may detract a bit from the modeling action above but that should be weighed against the fact that the display actually supports the story the layout itself tells.
