Visit - Fry's Somerdale (00 Gauge) by Callum Wilcox, A Cameo Layout

Visit

Callum Wilcox models where the railroad that serves a famous British chocolate factory crosses a road. J.S. Fry & Sons, Ltd. began in the 18th century in Bristol and went through several name changes. It was started by Quakers as were all three of the most famous British confectionery manufacturers, including Cadbury and Rowntree's. In 1919 the firm merged with Cadbury's. Under Edbert Cadbury the Fry's division moved to Somerdale, Keynsham, just outside Bristol. The Somerdale factory was closed after Kraft Foods took over Cadbury in 2010.

No room for a layout? This layout, covered in Railway Modeller, proves one wrong. The builder of this exhibition layout is a vlogger known cryptically as SDJR7F88 who seems a bit shy about sharing his name; but with some digging I uncovered his name to be Callum Wilcox. I was particularly taken with the presentation; Wilcox explains that the Fry's factory is presumed on the left (hidden by a wing). His vinyl rub-on letters purposely mimic the gold lettering on a famous Fry's factory locomotive. This vlogger tells us in his first posting that he used three pre-cut diorama baseboard kits by scalemodelscenery.co.uk. Candidly, watching his videos can be a bit challenging as the British accent - when recorded - can sometimes be a challenge to follow.

Update - Callum now works for Railway Modeller. He resides in the Southwest of England I am told.
