Covered in Loco-Revues issue number 906, Osiris is whimsical model railroad centered on the fictional TinTin cartoon character visiting Egypt. For those of you not familiar with TinTin, he is a character by cartoonist Georges Remi who first appeared in French in 1929. Frenchman Frank Combe built this entertaining layout to the somewhat unusual scale of 1:13. Click on the photo above to see this exhibition layout operating and get a better look at its scenic features; this video is superb in its clarity and lighting; even the music is intoxicating This layout was on display and operating at RailExpo 2022 an exhibition held in France. American readers can be excused in missing this exhibition layout as all coverage of RailExpo 2022 seems to be in French; interestingly, a RailExpo 2022 advertised to have taken place in Tehran is surely not the same event.

Tin Tin and his loyal dog

Modeler Combe leaves no stone unturned in his effort to tell his animated three-dimensional story. He employs excellent lighting, precise structures, a wonderful backdrop, and exquisite weathering to tell his tale. Of course, his motor power and rolling stock are also superb. And do not ignore that each of the figures contributes to telling the layout's story. The figures I believe are stock figures available for sale from a manufacturer that I would guess aims at young customers. Can these examples be applied to larger layouts? Of course. But why emulate him? This blogger would posit that the true test of a layout is whether it entrances the visitor or viewer; in this Combe has succeeded - his modeling brings you into his world while making one ignore all that is around one.

Watch this entire video and you will notice that there is a fiddle yard equipped with a traverser table to keep the action lively in the visible portion of this exhibition layout.
