Effective use of forced perspective on his backdrop. Actually, a bit difficult to see where this layout ends and where the backdrop begins. It is difficult to recall very many others who exceed Johnson's skills in creating a backdrop.
Had Johnson used a lower horizon, his technique would have been even more effective. It seems model railroaders hesitate to lower the horizon on their backdrop (the "backscene" in British parlance) to where it would be most effective. Though American model railroaders have made progress - their horizons were once much higher.
