Project - Neat Detail, Directional Signs

Project

New York City roads were full of such stylized signs (logos if you will) directing travelers to particular bridges and tunnels. If such directional signs were in evidence in the locale and era you are modeling be sure to include them in your model railroad layout. Such signs will inform your visitors of the era and locale you are modeling. You might find such signs on the internet; if so, you can download them and size them to the scale you are modeling.

I used one such directional sign - albeit depicting a different route - on my HO scale Lower Montauk Branch, posting it on a vehicular overpass.

An earlier blog posting depicts directional signs to both the World's Fair (held in Flushing Meadows in 1964) and the Queens Midtown Tunnel.

I suspect that such stylized directional signs might be seen in other parts of the United States at least for important roadways - built and funded before the federal government got into the highway building business. The Pennsylvania Turnpike and the New Jersey Turnpike come to mind. One would not need to model either of these before mentioned roads to include a sign pointing to an entrance.
