Project
Those wishing to model G scale or other large scales will find many details are available from Larry G Scale and numerous doll house suppliers. Yes, I model in Fn3 (1:20.3 scale), but I pay little attention to the difference between my scale and G scale (1:24 scale). These details (pictured above) are only a tiny sample of what is available. These details will soon receive a coat of Testors DullCote and be installed in my scratch built Waipahu Engine House. A coat of DullCote will impart a more realistic appearance to all the details pictured; in the prototype viewing objects through many feet of atmosphere tends to obscure the shine of those objects.
Whatever scale you model in, do not be a prisoner of the Walthers® catalog www.walthers.com. Look for details from home-based manufacturers - the sort you might only see at a train show.
Also do not overlook manufacturers that generally cater to military modelers - sometimes called plastic modelers (not exactly the same).
Attend an IPMS show to see what the vendors have for you. Incidentally, in the past few years, I have noticed more and more published articles where the paints and washes used were previously known only to military modelers. The demise of Floquil, a famous paint that was used by model railroaders, may have played a role in this regard.
Finally, if you are a large-scale modeler, do not overlook doll house supply vendors as a source for detail parts and accessories.
