Interesting use of a black and white panoramic photograph used as a backdrop. Note the use of perspective to draw the viewer into the scene. Even though the figures and scenery are in color the use of black and white in the backdrop seems to work. Also of note is the effective use of curved corners in this backdrop.
Using a black and white backdrop could be a useful technique to apply to model railroads. The bright colors of the modeled seem serve to direct attention to the modeling when the backdrop is reduced to black and white. I have seen this with large scale indoor layout that depicted Hawaii and I thought it worked well.

Located at the corner of Quay and Hobson Streets. It seems universal that when a museum wants to tell a story often the best way to do so is through a diorama. This holds true even in far-off New Zealand.
