Visit - Another Look at the Field Museum's Tea Plantation Diorama

Visit

Another Look at the Tea Plantation Diorama from Chicago's Field Museum. I visited this and another diorama at the Field Museum during a visit to Chicago.

Model Railroaders can learn much from such small-scale dioramas found at many museums - curved backdrops, reduced scale, wings (a theatrical term popularized by Iain Rice for model railroaders, and other devices. I would point out that this diorama's designer just to have the landscape rise up to meet the backdrop - this is a technique that model railroaders should consider employing on their layouts (though in some cases, having the landscape descend to meet the backdrop might also be gainfully employed. Which technique to use? Your author is not quite sure. Apologies for this being a black and white photograph. In person, the colors of this diorama leave visitors with much more inspiration. Learn more about this topic from my articles in the Layout Design Journal.

In 1921, the Field Museum's current building opened on the Lake Michigan Shore. If you are visiting Chicago, you will probably just take a taxi to visit this cultural icon. Do not miss this diorama while you are there.
