Three dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History
Visit
Inspiration from a series of dioramas that explore the seasons of a farm in Dutchess County, New York.
I believe my interest in dioramas and modeling were inspired by childhood visits to the American Museum of Natural History where I observed this set of small-scale dioramas and others.
Model makers of all persuasion can learn much from museum dioramas. Even the poor ones can be instructive - on how not to accomplish a story.
Warning - Some museum designers seem to be less enamored these days with dioramas - I take strong objection to their view. It was a travesty when a renovation of the natural history museum in Washington DC's mall resulted in the destruction of their priceless full scale dioramas.
